As a child growing up in the 60′s, I have to comment on the passing of Soupy Sales. I must admit I spent a fair amount of afternoon time watching The Soupy Sales Show. The disembodied arms of “puppets” Black Tooth and White Fang, the over-sized bow tie, the off-screen laughter of the TV crew, and the inevitable pie in the face (some 20,000 over his career) bring back many childhood memories. Soupy Sales died last night at the age of 83, of cancer (type undisclosed) at Calvary Hospice Center in the Bronx. He had been admitted to the center last week.

Hospice care is end of life care provided by health professionals and volunteers. It is designed to give medical, psychological and spiritual support to those who have 6 months or less to live. Hospice can take place at home, at a hospice center, at a hospital or in a skilled nursing facility. The goal of the care is to help people who are dying have peace, comfort and dignity.The caregivers try to control pain and other symptoms so a person can remain as alert and comfortable as possible. Hospice programs also provide services to support a patient’s family.
