Welcome to our blog. Our goal is to better educate consumers about health conditions through the lens of Common Diseases Affecting Uncommon People(TM)

We are a wife & husband team of physicians who have trained and taught at some of the top medical schools in the country including Harvard, Johns Hopkins and Washington University in St. Louis. Our mission is create a serial collection of Teachable Moments in Medicine(TM) to increase health awareness and health literacy and to enable a new generation of “e-patients” to be well-informed to take good care of themselves and to prepare for more productive encounters with professional healthcare providers and systems.

We first got the idea for this approach by a fascinating course we took on a view of American and medical history as seen through the health problems of U.S. Presidents. We will regularly post comments on diseases that are currently in the news and occasionally on diseases that have affected important historical and literary figures. We’ll try to provide links to useful sites where you can learn more about these diseases from authoritative and reliable sources. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
