Treatment of pancreas cancer

I happened to be in a meeting today where I met Dr. Mark P. Callery, a distinguished Boston surgeon who specializes in diseases of the gastrointestinal system (stomach, intestines), the liver, gallbladder and pancreas at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. At one point we began talking about pancreatic cancer (the kind that Patrick Swayze and Ruth Bader Ginsberg have) and he mentioned how important it is to provide patients with information on how many operations of this type their surgeon has done, their success rate, etc. He pointed to a table on his web site where he provides this information to his patients.

Books written or edited by Dr. Callery

Mark Boguski, M.D., Ph.D. is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and is a member of the Society for Participatory Medicine, "a movement in which networked patients shift from being mere passengers to responsible drivers of their health" and in which professional health care providers encourage "empowered patients" and value them as full partners in managing their health and wellness.
