UPDATE: Natalie Cole receives new kidney

As previously reported here, singer Natalie Cole revealed that she was suffering from kidney failure as a result of Hepatitis C. She had been undergoing dialysis three times a week. We have now learned that Ms. Cole underwent kidney transplant surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The kidney came from a deceased organ donor.

As well all know, our kidneys are located in the back our abdomens just above where some of us have “love handles.” What many people don’t know, however, is when you have a kidney transplant, your old kidneys are usually not removed and the transplanted one is placed in the front of the lower abdomen as shown in the picture below.
