Heart, Blood Conditions Contributed to Danny Gans’ Death

Further information provided by Clark County Coroner P. Michael Murphy includes the fact that Mr. Gans suffered from hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart disease that made him more vulnerable to irregularities of his heart’s natural rhythm (called arrhythmias). Gans also had a condition called polycythemia (too many blood cells) and all of these conditions put him at higher risk for adverse side effects of the drug (hydromorphone or Dilaudid) he was taking for chronic back pain from his earlier career as a minor league baseball player. Danny Gas played Deke in the movie Bull Durham and also had parts in many TV shows, often impersonating celebrities that became part of his Las Vegas act which included Tony Bennett, Al Pacino, Sarah Vaughan, Clint Eastwood, Rodney Dangerfield, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, Jimmy Stewart and Kermit the Frog.
