Stephen Gately, 33, a singer in the 1990’s Irish band Boyzone, was found dead while on vacation on the Spanish island of Mallorca with his partner Andrew Cowles. According to a family spokesman: “There’s no foul play involved and it’s not suicide. It’s just a tragic accident is what we’ve been told.” Dublin-based Boyzone was formed in 1993, and went on to release four best-selling albums and six No. 1 singles in its original run. In 1999, Gately surprised British fans when he announced that he was gay, and the group disbanded shortly thereafter. There was a reunion tour in 2007-08. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
