UPDATE: 2 Celebrities Now “Cancer-Free”

Good news this week for two celebrities we have followed on this blog. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is reporting on his website that he is now cancer-free after successful treatment for prostate cancer. He is also using the opportunity to raise awareness about the disease in the hope that others will also be diagnosed early: “I say to every red-blooded male, if you do begin to have a problem down under, however embarrassing, go to your GP at once. Even if you don’t have any symptoms, if you are over 50 get regular PSA (prostate specific antigen) tests.”

Meanwhile, Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn continues on his quest to beat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. As previously reported, Zohn underwent high dose chemotherapy and radiation treatment, followed by a stem cell transplant. According to long-time girlfriend Jenna Morasca, his treatment is nearly done and “He’s doing okay. We’re getting toward the end and we’re hoping to go home [from the hospital] this week, but then he’s still going to be on kind of a watch and in isolation for three months so we’re going to take it day by day but in my opinion he is cancer free.”

Mark Boguski, M.D., Ph.D. is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and is a member of the Society for Participatory Medicine, "a movement in which networked patients shift from being mere passengers to responsible drivers of their health" and in which professional health care providers encourage "empowered patients" and value them as full partners in managing their health and wellness.
