There is a story on the Huffington Post today that consists of pictures of 14 celebrities (including Gwyneth Paltrow, Whitney Port, Kathy Griffin and Jennifer Aniston), each with a sentence or two about some of their dietary and detoxification regimens. We’ve previously covered much of this territory through stories on celebrity “health styles” and “Diets that Work”. We’ve also given you the medical facts behind detox diets and other celebrity weight loss secrets. We’ve told you about surgery for obesity and iPhone applications for diet tracking and calorie counting. Here’s a summary of the information in the HuffPost story along with our brief commentary and pointers to related stories.

Beyonce used her method to drop 20 pounds for her Dreamgirls movie role but says that she doesn’t recommend this — it’s an occupational hazard of her job and she gained the weight back after the filming was over. If you have to do this, she says to do it with the proper help which we assume she means under medical supervision. We agree.
We’ve previously written about Dr. Junger‘s questionable cleanses and Ms. Paltrow‘s diet and health theories. We’ve also covered the endorsement of QuickTrim® by the Kardashians. The HuffPost article wasn’t very informative about Jennifer Aniston‘s diet but we’ve previously written about her use of the New Lifestyle Diet™ and the Baby Food Cleanse (recommended by Madonna’s trainer Tracy Anderson).
Fergie uses what’s professionally called aversion therapy to decrease or eliminate undesirable behaviors (like eating fries). Aversion therapy was famously used fictionally in the book and movie A Clockwork Orange.
Simon Cowell and Whitney Port are both using low carbohydrate diets. Author Gary Taubes has written about these in his book Good Calories, Bad Calories and has a new book coming out soon (Why We Get Fat). We highly recommend that you check out some of his videos on YouTube.
