Do you know who broke into my car last night? Reward offered

When Michele was heading off to the gym this morning, she discovered that Mark’s car had been broken into and his 11-inch MacBook Air had been stolen along with the other contents of his briefcase. The serial number on the MacBook Air is C02DQ4KRDJDL in case you see one for sale on eBay.

A similar “smash and grab” break-in happened to us (same car!) about 7 months ago in November 2010. At that time we installed a Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Visionso we were ready when last night’s break-in happened just after 3:30am. The robbery suspect is shown in our driveway, in the Chestnut Hill section of Newton, Massachusetts, peering into the car with his flashlight in this screen capture from our surveillance video. The suspect escaped into woods behind our neighbors’ house across the street. According to Officer Bob, he may have run into some poison ivy back there.

Earlier last night, just after 1:30am, a suspicious vehicle was recorded entering and then leaving our cul-de-sac after turning around in our other neighbors’ driveway. Perhaps they were “casing” the neighborhood?

If anyone has any information about this crime, please contact Detective Steve at the Newton, MA Police Department. The incident report number is 11020348. We’re offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the guilty parties and recovery of any stolen property.

The video of the robbery is also now available on YouTube.
